                                                ABSTRACT
(This research was embarked upon to investigate the effect of pressure groups on the development of democracy in Nigeria). The study therefore examines various textbooks, journals and magazine to extent fact for the development of the research units for academic contribution. Questionnaire on pressure groups and the development of democracy in Nigeria  was used for data collection while the data analyses were based on simple percentages. The study adopted a descriptive research design which employs the survey technique for data collection. The sample and sampling techniques were used based on equality of choice and easy accessibility.in carrying out this research work, a survey method of research was adopted. Fifty (50) questionnaires were distributed between two towns in Eredo Local Government Area of Lagos State. Out of the numbers of questionnaires distributed, 50 copies were returned upon which the analysis of the study was conducted. The research concluded that Functional pressure groups have contributed immensely and are still contributing to the promotion and protection of democratic ideals in the country. However, for the groups to be more effective in the democratic process there is a need for them to have a wider influence so that their impact will be felt nationwide. As presently constituted, these groups are restricted to the south-western part of the country.
